Mathoastronmusicaology - RonO's Ramblings

Nov. 10th, 2009 08:11 pm Mathoastronmusicaology

This evening as I was getting off the train, I started thinking about the rate of change of the sunrise and sunset times -- prompted by the fact that it seems to be noticeably darker this week when I get home than last week (and much darker than the week before).

As I was walking to the car, I was struck by the realization that the title of a song that a 1973 Helen Ready hit that my iPod had dug up earlier in the day would also be the correct description of one of the values I was pondering

The song was, of course, "Delta Dawn."

Oof.

I don't know what's worse. The background that you need to have to get that pun, or the fact that I get that pun.

I could state the defense that it came from a collection that I got (from Time-Life back when I was week and foolish). But I did rip it from CD into iTunes and include it for syncing to the iPod and then didn't skip it -- like I did with the Blondie hit from the mid-1980's that still makes me ill (always has, I'm not sure why).

But that wouldn't be a complete defense. I grew up listening to 1970s and, later 1980s, middle of the road adult contemporary -- i.e. what was being played on KOB-AM the default radio station at home and in our cars. And I moved from there pretty much straight into Jazz and Classical.
