Something I'd do - RonO's Ramblings

Jun. 19th, 2009 01:50 pm Something I'd do

I just got an e-mail from one of my coworkers pointing me to a "Loyal employee." This was a URL that resolved to a page in our internal personnel database for someone who was issued a permanent guest badge (complete with employee photo), who just happened to be the service dog for one of the IT employees.

For several years, the policy at DucKon has been that we do not issue badges to pets, but if someone has a licensed service animal we would issue a badge for it. Until last year when the Handicapped Services department was removed, I would have issued it as a staff badge there. Now I'd probably still issue it as a staff badge so that I could include a badge title ("guide dog," "assistance dog" or something similar)

At Concomcon I was asked to create a badge for a service dog. I made the badge, and decided to list the membership as a dog-in-tow. I would have done the same for a pet (subject to the hotel's policy on pets). C-Cubed is a small enough convention that we don't have policies for such things, and my choice would be to accede to a member's request unless there's a good reason not to.
