As I already mentioned over on Facebook, I managed to miss giving my DSL provider and updated credit card when mine expired. As a result, and because of spending more than an hour (total) on hold, and the companies change to a strictly business focus, I'm changing over to a regular cable modem (Time Warner in our neighborhood).1 comment - Leave a comment
One drawback to this is that I'm loosing my two static IP addresses, so I'll have to figure out how to direct the domain registration for the domain that I have been hosting. I'll also have to figure out how best to adjust my network so that I can route packets around correctly.
So, at least until I can get this worked out, I will probably be posting directly to Live Journal instead of to www.ron-oakes.us/wordpress.
On the plus side, I think we'll have more bandwidth (in a real sense) than we could get from DSL, and will be paying about the same or even less per month for it.
I also have to prepare for Monday when I get to make sure that they are happy installing the cable modem with only one of the laptops as a client - and letting me take care of the inside network. But that has to be a more common occurrence than it used to be, doesn't it?

It is. They called me and said "Do you need a cable modem?" I said no, they said it'll be turned on Monday between 3 and 5, call us if you have any issues.... and that was that. Plugged the modem in, everything worked, thank you very much.
