Earlier this week, I finished listening to A Game of Thrones. I’d like to see the HBO series, but will probably have to wait until it is available through Netflix (or more correctly their DVD distribution spin-off) which won’t be until some time after HBO releases the DVDs.
But, I do have a question about how they cast six somewhat to very important roles, namely Grey Wind, Ghost, Lady, Nymeria, Summer and Shaggy Dog. While I can see a few ways that they would do this, at least early on. But once the dire wolves are mostly grown it would be hard to find a real dog or wolf that could fill the role. On the other hand, CGI might not be quite up to the task yet (although some of the motion capture CGI characters such as Golumn) have interacted pretty well – but they don’t have to be seen biting human actors.
If what I’ve heard about the series is accurate, I’m sure that the producers figured out a solution that works, allows for the action to be filmed safely – especially around the younger human actors – and doesn’t look hokey on screen.
